Daniel Smith Obituary, Cause of Death – American Civil Rights Leader & Son of Former Slave

Daniel Smith Death

Daniel Smith Obituary, Death Cause: According to his wife, Daniel Smith, a 90-year-old American civil rights leader and the son of a former slave, has passed away. Smith died on Wednesday evening, according to Loretta Neumann, at a hospice facility in Washington. She claimed that his son Rob and daughter April were by his side.

With Martin Luther King Jr., Smith marched on Washington and attended the inauguration of Barack Obama, the first Black president. Smith’s remarkable life tale also includes fleeing the clutches of the Ku Klux Klan in the Deep South. He also served as the last link to the nation’s worst episode because Smith was only one generation removed from slavery thanks to his father Abram, who was born in Virginia in 1863 and temporarily owned by a white man.

Daniel Smith Cause of Death

On March 11, 1932, Daniel Smith was born in Winsted, Connecticut, the fifth of Abram’s six children with Clara, his second wife.

Early in the 1860s, his father Abram was born into servitude in Virginia. When Smith, his youngest son, was born, he was 70 years old. Crawford recalled how Smith’s father used to regale him with tales of the brutality their forebears endured and overcame.

Smith recalled that the father had remarked, “You could hear them screaming and wailing at the whipping post.” The strange thing is, though, is my father has never permitted you to criticize America.

Smith told CBS News that his father thought his little son would have the chance to succeed in the new America.
