Geoff Gruson Death – Ottawa Little Theatre President Geoff Gruson has sadly passed away. He died on Tuesday 19th December 2023 leaving those that knew him devastated. He was confirmed dead through a post that says “Dear friends, It is with a very heavy heart that I share with you the news that OLT President Geoff Gruson died on Dec. 19”. The circumstances surrounding the actual cause of Geoff Gruson’s death has not been known.

Geoff was honored as an OLT Cornerstone Project inductee in 2015 for his remarkable record of over 35 years of committed volunteer service at the OLT. Actor, director, assistant director, fight director, scenic designer, and an impressive 17-year board member are just a few of Geoff’s many jobs in the industry. Along with his involvement on the Play Selection Committee, he has also headed the Artistic Committee and made contributions to the Operations Committee. He has contributed insightful knowledge based on his long career in the business world, which includes working in strategic and human resources management and being involved in professional stage, film, and television productions.

A notable example of his leadership in the entertainment sector is his tenure as President of ACTRA Ottawa. In 2006–2007, Geoff received the Audrey Ashley Award from the Capital Critics Circle for his extraordinary contributions to the Ottawa theater industry. His work was remarkable on both professional and community stages, and he made a tremendous effect.

In addition to the EODL Best Director award for “Deliver’d from Nowhere” (2009) and the Theatre Ontario Best Production Award for “Dead Accounts” (2018), Geoff has received the Capital Critics Circle Award for Best Community Theatre Production for “Epic Proportions” (2002) and “Other Desert Cities” (2017). His dedication to excellence was further recognized in 2014 when he was inducted into the OLT Cornerstone. Geoff was a master of both main and supporting roles, and he was always ready to step in when needed.

He taught his actors priceless lessons as a director, stressing the need of giving their absolute best performances. Geoff was also instrumental in guiding up-and-coming filmmakers. He embodies a heritage of quality and devotion, and his multifarious contributions have left an unforgettable impression on the OLT community.
