The classical music community is mourning the loss of Geoff Nuttall, co-founding the first violinist of the St. Lawrence String Quartet (SLSQ), beloved faculty member of Stanford University’s department of music, and director of chamber music at the Spoleto Festival in South Carolina. Nuttall died in California, where he was based, on Oct. 19 of pancreatic cancer. He was 56.

Spoleto Festival’s chamber music director passed away on Wednesday at his California home.

The news of Nuttall’s death was confirmed by Barry Shiffman, director of BISQC, a former member of the SLSQ, and a longtime friend of Nuttall.
