News of John Westacott’s tragic death has been spreading since he was identified as the man who fell from a boat in Sydney Harbour on Sunday. He fell from a boat near Neilson Park in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and could not be rescued, so Police Marine District Command had to pull him out of the water. He died on 9 October 2022.

The investigations state that despite their best efforts, ambulance personnel was unable to resuscitate Westacott after treating him for 30 minutes at Vaucluse dock.
