After his first Hollywood film, released in 1954, he became famous. But his work in Towering Inferno will always be his legacy because it got him 3 Oscars.

Though he was a rising star in the Hollywood industry, his personal life had some darkness. His heavy smoking habit caused him and, eventually, his life.

Even though he quit smoking thirty years before he died, it was still not enough because the damage had been done. And he was diagnosed with cancer.
