Sara Ann Lee was born on June 7, 1992, in HopeTown, Michigan. After graduating from Meridian High School in 2010, she attended Delta College in Bay City, Michigan, studying diagnostic medical sonography.

Lee was one of 13 winners of the sixth season of WWE Tough Enough in June 2015. Lee and Josh Bredl were voted the winners by fan votes in August of that year after facing five dangers of elimination throughout the competition.

In September, Lee was assigned to WWE’s developmental territory NXT, based at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, to begin training.
