On Friday, July 28, 2023, Sarah Fagan was found unconscious while participating in the Alpe d’Huez triathlon at Lake Viny in the town of Allemont. She was a competitor in the Dundalk Mount Pleasant event.
The 48-year-old woman was pulled from the water and paramedics administered CPR before taking her to hospital. She was airlifted to a nearby medical facility. However, doctors were unable to save her life due to her critical condition.
She died a few hours later. An official cause of death for Sarah Fagan was not immediately released, and more details should come later.

Sarah Fagan was born in 1975, a 48 year old woman from Mount Pleasant, Dundalk. She has been an active member of the Cycling Club since early 2010. She has worked on everything including recreational, racing and road events.
She was participating in the Alpe D’Huez Triathlon on Friday, July 28, when the tragic incident happened, and she died.

Tributes have been paid to an Irish woman who died this weekend after competing in a triathlon in France.
The Setanta Triathlon Club shared a moving tribute to their club member, Sarah Fagan from Dundalk, who died on Saturday.
“It is with profound sorrow and shock that we have to announce the passing of our friend and club-mate Sarah Fagan,” the club said in a statement shared via social media.
