Scappoose Stabbing – Following an incident on Tuesday afternoon, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office reports that a murder suspect has been taken into custody. Law enforcement is looking into a major stabbing that happened in Columbia County, Oregon, on Hwy 30 near Tarbell Road, according to reliable sources. A victim who was only named as a female was stabbed in the neck, according to the report. It was stated that the suspect drove off in a black 2005 Chevy Silverado.
Police responded to Southwest 4th Street at around three o’clock in the afternoon, indicating they were looking for a “dangerous man.” The reason behind the multiagency manhunt was not immediately apparent. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office announced just before two in the morning on Wednesday that it had taken into custody the suspect and verified the incident was a murder.
The suspect was identified as Derek Welter. This is still an ongoing investigation, according to the CCSO, even though the suspect is in jail and there are no safety concerns. Although authorities claimed there was no threat or incident at any of the schools, the city’s school district nonetheless placed pupils into neighboring school buildings out of caution.
