He has appeared on Detroit-produced radio shows such as The Maverick, The Green Hornet, and Yukon Challenge. He also appeared in a number of regional stage plays, performing alongside Detroit resident George C. Scott.
When B-24 bomber pilot Elliott is shot down over Germany during World War II and spends 18 months as a prisoner of war, his talent for entertaining in harsh environments proves invaluable. During his captivity, he helped boost the morale of his fellow inmates by directing original skits in the barracks.
