Stanley Swiney Obituary, Death Cause: Stanley “Stan” Swiney, Sr., a retired major, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at his residence. He will be laid to rest today with police honors, so family, friends, and loved ones are getting ready to say their final goodbyes.
In June 1976, Ret. Maj. Swiney began working for the Columbus Police Department. Ret. Maj. Swiney worked for the Patrol Division, Crime Prevention/Community Relations Unit, Investigative Services, and Support Services during his time there.
Prior to being promoted to Sergeant in 1981, Lieutenant in 1987, Captain in 1991, and Major in 2002, he began working for the department as a Patrol Officer. Major Swiney retired in 2017 after spending 41 years protecting and serving the people of Columbus, Georgia.
