Vidor man Killed in fatal Interstate 10 crash in Beaumont
Authorities have released the name of a man who was killed in a multi-vehicle crash involving a mail truck on Interstate 10 early Tuesday morning in Beaumont.
The victim of the deadly collision at Laurel Avenue, who was 32 years old and from Vidor, was identified by the Beaumont Police Department as Jonathan Allen Droddy. The incident is still being looked into.
Prior to six in the morning, police received a complaint about the collision on Interstate 10 that closed lanes in both directions. The crash that severely damaged the retaining wall has resulted in the reopening of all lanes.
“Preliminary information gathered from the scene revealed the operator of a box truck, transporting mail, was traveling northbound and lost control of the vehicle,” police said in an update at about 1:30 p.m. “He struck a cement center divider and knocked it into southbound traffic.”
According to the police, Droddy was driving a 2016 Ford Escape SUV southbound when he was struck by the box truck and killed instantly. The box truck’s driver was hurt, though not seriously.
The retaining wall struck a gray GMC Sierra pickup truck that was traveling southbound. The GMC pickup driver was not injured, police said.
Traffic was previously diverted to the service road on both sides of Interstate 10 while officials worked to clear the crash for at least three hours.
